It’s time for week five of my feature post and Reason #5 out of 10 why you’ll fall in love with Australia.
And after trawling through all my photos from my travels it’s come to my attention that there are so many shots that I haven’t shared and of course, behind every photograph there’s a story so, I’ve decided to share one a week and create a little collection that’ll show you exactly; 10 reasons you’ll fall in love with Australia. Enjoy!
Australia is home to the major surf comps!
The surfing culture in Australia is HUGE so you’ll definitely have plenty of opportunities to see a surfing competition at some point whether it’s a professional one or a local one. I managed to catch quite a few local ones but one of the things I had to tick off of my bucketlist was to go and see a big surfing comp. The Ripcurl Pro at Bells Beach tends to be at the beginning of the WSL Tour and it just so happened that Bells was my neighbour at the time of the comp – it was like it was meant to be! The event lasted a few weeks due to the crappy conditions postponing the heats which meant I had plenty of opportunities to go and check out the event. I managed to time things perfectly and caught Kelly Slater’s heat up against Gabrielle Medina (I’m a Kelly fan all the way!) Not only did I get to see them catching waves, I managed to catch this shot of the surf God himself – excelling my bucketlist! You should definitely go and check out a surf comp in Australia if you can, the surfing culture is something I love most about the place and there’s definitely something unique about this sport in this country, they come hand in hand.
